Our Story



Udavi was registered as a voluntary social service organization in 1993. Our community-based development activities are focused on the urban, rural and tribal population in Chennai, Kanchipuram and in Thiruvellore, a district of Tamil Nadu. The main target of our work is to educate and to strengthen women, youth and children, who are vulnerable and marginalized, as well as people with disabilities.



Street Children Project



Street children in Chennai are a result of persistent poverty. They are running away from their home with the hope to start a better life in the city. But the truth is, that they will find only petty jobs in order to survive and that they have to live under pitiable conditions. Therefore, it is our duty to support them in terms of basic needs, integrate them into the society and give them a seed to grow on their own.

Woman Crisis Center



The main target of this program is to take care that women in Kannagi Nagar can live independently and with dignity. UDAVI has been working in Kannagi Nagar since 2007 to improve the education and economic development for resettled families. The increase of domestic violence, sexual abuse and gender discrimination is a warning. Therefore, we took the following actions in Kannagi Nagar

A Contact Center for women to address their problems and find solutions

Reproductive Health Training



A program for pregnant women to support reproductive health



Legal and Counseling Referrals



to improve the understanding of each other and to find the best solutions for their problems and root causes



How Can You Help?



Because UDAVI is a Non-Governmental organisation, we need donations to operate and to help independently.

Within the World Wide Web, it is getting more and more difficult for people to trace the final destination of their donations or rather to ensure, that their money was used as originally intended. In order to improve this situation, we decided to give the donators the possibility to donate exactly for what they want.​ To enable this we will offer "packages". These packages include materials, which we need to help the children, women and people with disabilities urgently.

Furthermore, UDAVI need more social engagement. It is perfect for people who want to get in touch with kids, women or disabled people. It is a great way to get new experiences and skills, too!
