The eviction caused a lot of problems. Most of these problems are consulting through the fact that the people in charge did not consider important components like livelihood, basic amenities, education, land titles, social security and community participation. The government did not prepare the affected, too. This led to a lot of misunderstandings and psychological problems.
That is the reason for an increasing rate of unemployment. In a study by the Housing and Land Rights Network, 79.3 % of the respondents had lost their jobs directly after the relocation, in reason of the long distance between their work and Kannagi Nagar. The education of the children got also affected. For instance, the number of school dropouts of children in the age group between 15 and 18 years increased by 30%.
There are more issues to take into account as the lack of accessibility to receive entitlements and issues relates to marginalized groups (PWDs, senior citizens and women headed families). All these problems have also led to an increase in antisocial activities like crime and sexual abuse. Women are one group which is highly affected. They have to deal with security problems like domestic violence, sexual harassment, unmarried mothers and rare access to health care.
